Ghastly Arrangements - UK artists

The gallery at Milton Keynes, England’s largest shopping centre, is the unlikely host to Ghastly Arrangements, an exhibition by Time Noble and Sue Webster.

In this exhibition, Noble and Webster pursue a continuing fascination with the thrills of illumination, love, language, shadows and cash with their artworks, Made Of Money (Intro Image, above) and The Original Sinners (Main Image, above).

Made Of Money

You insert a Las Vegas style token into this white metal box to begin a flurry of real paper pound notes. Looking up at the projected screen, the notes flutter about a shadow of the images of the artists in a postured kiss.

The Original Sinners

Another shadow work, this sculptural piece secretes a fine curtain of oil around a mountain of fruit. Projected is its shadow; the artists’ naked silhouette seemingly lactating and peeing. Artificial luxury and tongue-in-cheek wit combine to form an iconic image of the artists. It mixes the kitsch with the baroque and achieves an elegance at odds with the banality of the media used.

About the artists

Ghastly Arrangements is their first solo UK exhibition since The New Barbarians, in London, 1999. Since then, Webster and Noble have become two of the UK’s most successful contemporary artists, exhibiting worldwide to huge acclaim.
