Newmarket, Ponsonby and now the capital…taylor boutique has opened in Wellington.

Nestled in the Banks Arcade building it forms part of an ever-growing shopping Mecca alongside Workshop across from Zambesi, Unity, Desire and Pearl.

Opening show was a busy evening for taylor boutique.

Guests were treated to Cable Bay Wines from Waiheke Island, Piper Heidseck Champagne from Glengarry wines in Ponsonby, and gorgeous food including whitebait fritters from Capitol Catering. Did we mention the whitebait fritters?

Thread's Cynthia Greep caught up with designer and owner Vicki Taylor on some important fashion information...

Who is the taylor boutique customer?
“She is an artistic, sophisticated woman with a twist of mischievous fun, who is looking for wearable pieces that are unique and versatile. She is open to exploring new ideas, concepts and ways of wearing things. Forever stylish from her most glamorous to comfortable and relaxed. A woman who values quality and style."

Your fashion has a European flavour mixed with a New Zealand freshness, would you agree?
“I would have to agree, taylor reflects a European flavour in its easy elegance and luxurious fabrications that are sourced from leading European mills. With our collections we insist on designing all our collections in New Zealand for New Zealand women as we feel New Zealand has its own individual fashion identity and this blended with the best of European fabrication enables us to create this uniqueness and quality that New Zealand is getting recognised for."

What Taylor garments could be a necessary addition to the fashionista's wardrobe?
“taylor does everything from the everyday wardrobe to those outfits for special occasions. So I would have to say our Liman Jean- Slim leg pant in amazing Japanese fabric that once you wear once you do not want to take off. These are the perfect slim leg pant for teaming with long layers.

The Array Wrap (pictured below)- A gorgeous silk piece to layer with, which can be worn in several ways to create multiple looks with the Doppel Vest. The Dopple Vest is a double collared fitted waistcoat which can be worn with anything and everything from dresses to trousers, smart/casual, heel/flats- perfect for any occasion.

And for an occasion, that would have to be our Strata dress… this is pure elegance with a difference. An off the shoulder dress with amazing drape detail with that magic ooze factor.  Sexy without being revealing... the perfect outfit for something special."  Our favourite!

What words describe the taylor range for summer and what are we going to be seeing in store?
“Our range at taylor this season is suspended between opposing poles. A desire for a dreamlike elegance and a smoothness of form contrasts the gutsy and audacious tailoring, where accentuated shoulders and angular forms clash against the persuasive and ethereal."   We like!

What are some features of the taylor brand that are unique or special?
“Our taylor garments can be worn a multitude of different ways, there is no wrong way to wear it, back-to-front, upside down, tied, buttoned or belted in different ways making each garment unique to the individual wearer. As taylor garments are about creating an individual style that suits the wearer, it means that taylor garments are pieces that will not date and you will never get bored of…which is definitely a plus and many of our customers still have garments from our first collections, over 10 years ago."

It is important to note that the taylor range is 100% designed and manufactured in New Zealand. taylor produce limited numbers of each garment so often only 5-6 of one style is made.
