Mena brings Polynesian style

Mena brings Polynesian style

The four sisters behind the MENA label bring together their Polynesian heritage and love of fashion to their colourful label, and have opened a boutique in vibrant Onehunga Mall in Auckland.

The MENA label (www.mena.co.nz) started in Samoa in 2002 by sisters Agnes, Jackie, Gina and Charlene Loheni and has been operating from their workroom in Ponsonby until the exciting development of their own boutique, at 275 Onehunga Mall.

The Loheni sisters began their passion for design as teenagers when they would design and make their own clothes, taught by their seamstress mother Mena Loheni. The label is thus named for their mother, Mena, and we are sure they are doing her proud with their bright, floral dresses with a gracious femininity that make you smile when you put them on.

Each of the four sisters has her own taste and this comes together in a synergistic union, together with their Polynesian heritage with its strong emphasis on family unity. The flora and fauna of Samoa are seen clearly in the prints and hues of their garments.

The MENA collections draw on the sisters' experiences living between Auckland, Apia and London; the combination of city style and a cool Island vibe.

Thread.co.nz particularly likes this red smock with a hibiscus print over leggings, perfect for summer drinks and BBQ season. Below: Samala Smock $165.00.

For summer evenings, what could be nicer than a pretty print dress to sip cocktails in? Below, Te Rino Circle Dress in green palm print, $255.00.

Here's their colourful new range for SS 09-10
