Sophie Burrowes' Day at the Races

Thread attended fashion designer Sophie Burrowes' launch party with a fashion show of her newest collection coined 'Day at the Races' held at Shed 5 in the Wellington last week.

Burrowes is an up and coming designer currently undertaking a Bachelor of Design (Hons), majoring in Fashion at Massey University in Wellington. She has also launched a website and online shop for her label at www.sophieburrowes.co.nz

'Day at the Races' was a charming collection featuring silk dresses with sophisicated frills and roping detail. For only her second collection, it was polished and directional yet cohesive. The use of colour was excellent featuring soft pastels through to corals. Guests remarked the collection was wearable, fashion forward, girly and feminine.

Guests included Jack Yan, Publisher of upmarket international fashion magazine Lucire (www.lucire.com); Carolyn Enting, Fashion Editor for Dominion Post, and the lovely Samanatha Hannah who has mentored Burrowes.

Enting said "this is a very confident collection for a 19 year old who is still studying. She is very smart to be doing this two years before she graduates."

This is Burrowes' second collection. Her first collection was unleashed earlier this year and had elements combining edgy military detailing and romanticism.
