Aaron de Mey vs Lancome

Spring is all about freshness. Pinks with greens, teal with coral; all the shades of a garden in bloom.

Fresh ideas, fresh combinations of colour  - and maybe - even a little bit of shocking contrast. Lancome chose New Zealand make-up artist Aaron de Mey to invent this spring 2010 collection, applying his reputation for creativity with stunnng effect. Pictured left, Aaron's look on spokesmodel Elettra Wiedemann.

"Aaron as an artist is a creative innovator" says NZ make-up artist Minh Tran who has assisted him at shows during NY Fashion Weeks in the past.

"I've seen him using a lip liner, smudge it on his hand and use it as a eye shadow for one of the shows I assisted him on back in 2003 and last year at L'Wren Scott (New York fashion week February 2009), he burned a lighter on a plate to create soot from the lighter, then mixed it with a bit of lip gloss to create the smokey eye gloss for the models...It was really cool to watch!"

Aaron de Mey brings his innovation and creative use of colour to this project with Lancome; a colour collection for Spring 2010 called O My Rose. The collection is said to celebrate beauty a la francaise, honouring French charm and liberty, with a sixties carefree spirit and free-thinking. These liberated sixties icons have been reinvented in O My Rose.

The range centres on three sheer shades: coral, aqua, and golden beige.

How beautiful is the pop art representation of Lancome's iconic rose emblem, in this blusher compact called Pop'n'Cheeks?

A cool polkadot gold case encloses the intense eye colour quartet Pop'n'Palette ($95.00) in two colour harmonies: Pop'n'Petrol in green and silver shades and Pop'n'Copper in beige and copper shades.

Thread.co.nz's favourites:

We love this quad especially the deepest bronze colour which is so intense and has fantastic hold. The medium brown shade (which looks a bit pinky in this photo but is a true brown) is perfect for eyebrows too.

And to create a perfect complexion and cover irregularities, we adore La Touche Pro ($70.00), an elegant mirrored compact with two shades of concealor to custom-blend like a make-up artist with a brush. The brush has two tips: a larger end for ther eye area and a slender tip for minor imperfections on the face. Apply foundation then touch up with concealor for a perfect finished look.

Aaron de Mey's favourites:

Aaron says, "Combine a Pop Petrol manicure with intensely green smoky eyes, or couple sandy nails with deliciously fresh coral lips."

Lancome's essential Le Crayon Khol has been reinterpreted for O My Rose in intense aqua green 04 Pop Petrol ($46.00)

La Laque is Lancome's hero gloss with the intensity of a lipstick and shine of a gloss. O My Rose launches two new shades: 216 Swinging Copper, and 112 Coral Bliss.
