Melbourne Street Chic

Melbourne Street Chic

Lucy Telford is over in Australia and yes it's hot. She shot some looks over the weekend that caught her eye on the streets of Melbourne on a typical hot summer's day in January 2010...

Hannah (pictured left) was chilling in a shoe store in Chapel Street when I spied her from the road. Need I even comment on how awesome this outfit is? It’s brave without being absurd, it pulls from the 80s and the 50s (red lipstick) but still stays in sync with the fashions today. The whole outfit felt carefully constructed, like a labour of love. Hannah, you rock my world.

Josh’s outfit was really well coordinated. The blue mirrored in the jeans, the beanie, the shirt, the glasses and the pink in the t-shirt and the shoes. The best part about this outfit is the trendy hipster glasses mixed with the relaxed surfer/skater look. It doesn’t feel constructed but it does look coordinated.

Kate is Josh’s lovely girlfriend. What I loved about her outfit is that the mustard yellow knit vest is mixed with the soft floral shift. The whole outfit feels so out of sorts, like it shouldn’t work and yet works so well as an outfit on a whole. Nice one, Kate

Jo and Pryah were travelers, so didn’t have any good tips on Melbourne fashion, but I loved Pryah’s colour choice and the cut of Jo’s outfit. The green against Pryah's skin made both colours pop, and Jo’s shorts, boots and shirt were only made awesome by her wily hair. I think it’s the curls that really made that outfit awesome.

I loved how crazy this outfit was. The trolley with the jumper and the jersey are keenly 80s, which is funny because I’m guessing she’s too young to have set foot in the 80s. But what I really liked were the wicked leggings.
I didn’t get any info off her as her mother was giving me a look, pondering all the ways I was trying to con her daughter.

Ella and Seth (p.s. best names ever) caught my eye because of the colour use. Particularly Seth’s use of camel and floral with some awesome lace up school shoes to boot.

Tavisuwan Duang was the delight of my day. When I stopped her in the street, she was baffled by my request to talk to her about her outfit. She didn’t really have any good fashion tips or fashion icons – which leads me to believe that she’s not interested in fashion at all. However, the muted colours and high waisted pants are really cool, far more elegant than the picture portrays.
