Festival flair
Olivia Boswell shoots music festival fashion for Street Chic from Parachute 2010, celebrating their 20th year, older than most of those there but not older than their wardrobes, judging by all the vintage gears...
The 20-year celebration of Parachute Music ushered in a stellar line up of international artists, and in terms of style, the talent on the street was just as impressive.
Since the start of the festival way back in the 90s, there have been significant changes at the event – moving to a much bigger venue, more variety in bands and musicians and thousands more people attending – but despite those considerable differences there are still some small similarities to those first years. As the event took a look back to its beginning days, so it seems the fashion on the streets in 2010 also stole cues from the early 90s styles.
History repeated itself as girls wore high waisted cut off denims and crop tops, swing dresses, ray bans, floral prints and bobby socks. Boys followed suit with cut-off jean shorts, baggy singlets, Havaianas and ‘Luke Perry in his 90210 days’ haircuts.
There was still some of the ‘please die’ tie-dye hanging around, but for the most part the kids looking good were those wearing a healthy mix of vintage and designer gears. Although it must be said, with the torrential downpours of rain on Sunday, function took place over fashion, with waterproof rain jackets, plastic ponchos, rubbish bag ponchos, umbrellas and gumboots being the must-have items of the day.
Here are some of the more noticeably cool looking kids hanging around the Parachute Village.
