First of many Thursdays

First of many Thursdays

A balmy summer’s evening set the scene perfectly for the first event of 2010 for First Thursdays, a monthly art and craft fair held at St Kevin's Arcade on Karangahape Road.

Art and craft devotees, and those just curious to see what all the fuss was about, strolled through the arcade, and around temporary gallery space housing the works of new and upcoming artists, as well as tables of beautiful jewellery, clothing, homewares and other lovingly crafted handmade goods.

Our personal favourite of the evening was Lovems by ems, gorgeous individually designed underwear with cute bows and other detailing, selling for a very reasonable $10-$15.

First Thursdays, according to the organizers, is all about helping to build a more sustainable and tight-knight arts community and judging by the attendees enjoying the creative atmosphere as well as the great music, including DJ Recloose, they are achieving just that.
