Animal planet

Animal planet

I've always loved nature. But after having kids, nature seems to take on a whole new level in your appreciation as you see it through new eyes; the eyes of your child.

So it was with great excitement that we went to Kelly Tarlton's this morning, to meet the baby animals. They've had a few additions to their animal kingdom lately, including baby King penguins covered in fluffy brown feathers, baby Spiny Sea Dragons - the only ones in the world on display, less cuddly (but still adorable in their own way and no doubt irresistable to their grandmothers) baby carpet sharks, baby clown fish (like Finding Nemo) and baby sea turtles.

It's a very popular attraction by all accounts, so I'd definitely recommend you get there early and avoid the crowds!

Here are some of the highlights...

The Seahorse Kingdom.

Speaking of baby animals, check out the cute animal motifs on this top! We took the latest clothes by Nature Baby for a spin. This Wilderness print top is made from organic merino wool so it's good for the planet, and good for baby's delicate skin without the use of harsh chemicals next to their body.

He wears Nature Baby Wilderness longsleeve organic merino top, with Nature Baby brown cord drawstring trouser. She wears Nature Baby rose and mushroom organic merino longsleeve (skirt model's own.)

If you like installing a love of nature and caring for animals through books for your children, we recommend this new New Zealand book, Grandpa Ngata and the Seagull.

Aimed at 4 - 7 years, Grandpa Ngata and the Seagull by North Shore author Dave Gunson and published by New Holland ($19.99), encourages children to learn more about wildlife, particularly birds.

We like the use of birds' Maori names, and some easy greetings in Maori, amongst the English story.

The End.
