A Very Vintage Day Out
My friend Haeme and I went down to Very Vintage Day Out on Sunday 14th April at the Alexander Park show grounds in Auckland. The event was created and set up so that people of all things vintage could come together and well, celebrate it.
Patrons were able to mingle amongst other people walking around in elaborate costumes and full regalia, and were treated to workshops on make-up and hair (imagine dressing up as your favourite old school Hollywood starlet!), live music, quirky accessories and hats, and of course, a large selection of vintage clothes. If you want to embrace your inner rockabilly, then this is the place for you.
I snapped a few pictures of some very lovely ladies decked out in beautiful late ‘50s dresses, which definitely was the overall feel to the day. There were even some men wondering around dressed in old military uniforms (which made for great photo opportunities).
One of the highlights of the day for me was meeting the gorgeous Rose Jackson and Claire Gormly. Both women own vintage styling companies; Rose owns Decadia (Auckland) and Claire, The Vanity Case (Wellington).

I thought it was so cool how these women are expects in styling from the 40s and 50s and that you could hire them to style a hens night or a party or something. Such an awesome idea. I would have to say that my absolute favourite part of the event was the selection of vintage clothes (but hey, I may be a little biased seeing they are my forte). There were some very amazing (and unique) stalls, and great lingerie and designer pieces which you definitely don’t see every day.
On the other hand, I thought the lack of food stalls was a bit of a let-down, as well as the general setting and size of the event, but considering this was the first year of the VVDO, it could only get bigger and better from here.
