The Kid with the Bike
I recently attended a special viewing of a beautiful drama film called The Kid with the Bike. Held in the Rialto, the special screening of this French film hosted by Madman Entertainment was well worth attending.
The story follows the life of a young 12 year old boy called Cyril. Living in an orphange where his father left him, he goes on a mission to find his dad. By chance he meets a hairdresser called Samantha - she feels for Cyril and takes him in on the weekends at her home.
Cyril loves his bike and it seems the only thing that really makes him happy. He goes through some ups and downs on his mission to find his dad and stumbles into some trouble along the way, including some dubious characters. All the while Samantha is always there for him to turn to.
A believable and moving story-line, you can't help but dislike Cyril's father, the ignoring of his own son and his attempts to have his Dad take him back.
The Kid with the Bike is part of the Cannes Film Festival 2012. The film directors - Jean-Peirre and Luc Dardenne have previously won two Palmes d'Ór (for Rosetta in 1999 and The Child in 2005).
Without telling you what happens, I can say that it was a very well written story that tweaks the heart strings a little. As it's a French film it has subtitles. I would definitely recommend this and you can see this in cinemas on May 10th.
