Spring into gear
Surprises, more often than not, are a good thing BUT getting the first look (and first editorial dibs) on what’s to be expected on racks come spring/summer is never bad either.
Thread attended Showroom 22’s spring/summer 11/12 salon show on Wednesday 16th May. Here’s a quick round up of what we liked. Scratch that; what we LOVED.
As one event attendee mentioned, “Their pieces have evolved greatly over the past two years” and the two Glassons ensembles pictured below prove it.
To those who prefer making a statement without the help of bold hues, Glassons has still got you covered with this metallic garb.
This floral number from Glassons paired with a Bettina short-sleeved gathered top is the right kind of jolt every wardrobe needs in the seasons ahead. Despite the fact that Miranda Priestley’s sarcastic remark on the movie “The Devil Wears Prada” is on loop in my head, I would be the last person to say no to florals come springtime.
This ribbon skirt and tulip dress by Taylor is a personal favourite because I am a shapeless woman (read: no hips) and the silouhette of the dress would definitely do the trick. And as far as accessories go, the tassel neckpiece is a must-have for its versatility and the power it holds to transform an outfit from drab to fab.
It was a surprise to see swimwear walk down the runway bearing the name of Kathryn Wilson. Though known for her impeccably-designed shoes (I can personally vouch that the upcoming collection is amazing), her swimwear line proved that the best is yet to come from New Zealand’s homegrown footwear/fashion gem.
From a distance, the new line of Adidas reminded me of the H&M x VERSACE collection. It was luxe without compromising the Adidas look we all love and it just brought the idea of luxe sportswear to a whole new level. I guess teaming up with Jeremy Scott was one of Adidas’ best decisions to date.
As for the one that topped my list, it would have to be the cat print from twenty-seven names. How good was it? Well, I’m a self-proclaimed dog lover and they made me love cats. That’s saying something. My Twitter feed would prove that it was a crowd favourite too.
Although not on the runway, I’d say hats off to Showroom 22 for pulling off yet again another fantastic event (albeit smaller in comparison to their Blue Sky event) and for making all guests, myself included, very welcome.
